The CPFTA Program is a four-year program that includes a two-year high
school and two-year college component.
Years one and two are implemented at the Chicago Police Education &
Training Academy and the Robert J. Quinn Fire Academy as an
after-school program. The program is conducted Mondays, Tuesdays,
and Wednesdays from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. following the CPS school day.
The program meets CPS’s two-year career education graduation
requirement. The curriculum emphasizes academics and physical
fitness, and offers the Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report
(POWER) test, developed by the Illinois Local Governmental Law
Enforcement Officers Training Board, Emergency Medical Technician
(EMT) training to students who qualify, and basic knowledge and
skills pertaining to careers in public safety.
Instructional personnel are selected by CPS, CPD, and CCC,
and include police officers and firefighters teaching on a
part-time basis.
